Selvaggio Blu Hike

The wild blue of Sardinia

9 days / September 2026

The “Selvaggio Blu” – translated as “wild blue” – is a legendary trekking route along the east coast of Sardinia, leading from Santa Maria Navarrese to Cala Gonone. This route crosses the impressive Sardinian cliffs, characterized by breathtaking bays, mighty rock faces, and lush scrubland. The unspoiled and natural environment is sparsely populated and undeveloped, allowing hikers to follow old shepherd and smuggler trails. This challenging route offers an intense experience of nature and is ideal for escaping everyday life and civilization. Without any abseiling or major climbing, we explore beautiful bays, follow remote paths, and cross impressive gorges framed by imposing cliffs.

We hike through the breathtaking Selvaggio Blu area.
A unique experience!

"The Selvaggio Blu is more than just a hiking trail; it is a challenge through Sardinia's most rugged and beautiful landscapes, where every effort is rewarded with incomparable views."

Itinerary of the trip

Day 1 - Arrival in Sardinia - Accommodation in Baunei - Santa Maria Navarrese - Pedra Longa

We warmly welcome you to Sardinia. After arriving in Baunei, we will drive about 15 minutes to the beautiful coastal town of Santa Maria Navarrese in eastern Sardinia. From here, we will take a leisurely hike along the beautiful coastline to Pedra Longa, a dolomite limestone block and (broken-off) integral part of the huge Baunei plateau. Its “rock needle-like” shape rises to a height of 128 m above sea level. Afterwards, we will enjoy a wonderful dinner with a view of the sea.

Day 2 - Su Porteddu - Punta Salinas - Cala Goloritze Beach

It takes about 20 minutes by car to reach the high plateau in Su Porteddu. This is where today's hiking stage begins. An unforgettable hike leads to the natural wonder of Cala Goloritzé and the impressive “Aguglia” rock. From the Punta Salinas hill, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the east coast of Sardinia, accompanied by spectacular views down into the depths. Cala Goloritzé is one of the most picturesque beaches in Sardinia, famous for its small white pebbles that cover the beach.

Day 3 - To the bays of Portu Cuau & Portu Pedrosu

On the third day, we drive back to our starting point in Su Porteddu. From here, we walk along old shepherd's paths towards the coast to the small, idyllic bays of Portu Cuau and Portu Pedrosu. Here we can swim or snorkel. Back in Baunei, we enjoy the view of the surrounding area over a delicious Sardinian dinner.

Day 4 - Through the Gola di Gorropu karst gorge

About an hour north of Baunei lies the Gola di Gorropu. It is one of the most impressive gorges in Europe and is located in the Supramonte area. Formed by thousands of years of erosion, this gorge with its steep rock faces is one of the deepest gorges on the continent. During our hike through the gorge, we can discover huge boulders, ancient juniper trees, centuries-old yews, and flowering oleanders. The region also offers ideal conditions for observing wildlife, such as the majestic golden eagle or the shy mouflons, which live here in their natural environment.

Day 6 - Caletta Fuili - Gulf of Orosei - Grotta del Bue Marino - Cala Luna

The trek from Cala Fuili to Cala Luna along the Gulf of Orosei is a breathtaking tour through Sardinia's wild nature. The trail takes us past the impressive Grotta del Bue Marino, a spectacular sea cave, and offers constantly changing views of the turquoise sea and dramatic coastal landscapes. We reach Cala Luna, one of Sardinia's most beautiful beaches, known for its crescent-shaped bay and fine white sand. Here we can cool off again and enjoy the turquoise blue sea. We return along the same path towards Cala Fuili where our car is waiting for us.

Today we are heading to Cala Mariolu, a beautiful bay north of Cala Goloritze. It takes us about 20 minutes by car to reach today's starting point on the Golgo Plateau. Our hike takes us up to the pass, where we then descend via wild shepherd's stairs made of old wood and negotiate steep gravel paths. Along the way, we discover a real highlight of the Golfo di Orosei: the Arcu 'e su Tasaru, a majestic rock arch that towers proudly over the sea and captivates us with its beauty. If you are looking for the Caribbean of Europe, you will find it in Cala Mariolu. The dream bay is framed by 500-meter-high cliffs and is a spectacular hike.

Further information

On this tour, unexpected conditions such as bad weather or logistical challenges may lead to delays, route adjustments, or program changes. Therefore, a sense of adventure, flexibility, and patience are essential. Openness to other cultures and personalities is also important, as we will be sharing unique experiences together.

Hiking:

A week-long tour in the mountains is a big challenge for many hikers. We mostly walk on well-maintained mountain trails, but these can occasionally be steep, rocky, earthy, and slippery. Hiking experience and good physical condition are essential for this trip. If you are confident on uneven, rocky, and unpaved terrain and have no problems with heights, you will be able to enjoy the Selvaggio Blu Trekking Tour to the fullest.

Accommodation:

We are staying at the Sa Clarera bed and breakfast in Baunei, in eastern Sardinia, at the foot of Supramonte and the Golgo plateau, an ideal starting point for hikes and off-road excursions. In an enviable panoramic location, it offers spacious and bright rooms for a comfortable stay. The rooms are equipped with a balcony with panoramic views and a private bathroom, TV, heating, and air conditioning.

Meals:

We are served a good breakfast at our accommodation. Along the way, there are occasional places to stop for refreshments or the opportunity to put together a packed lunch. It is also important to take enough to drink with you. In the evening, we always go out for a nice meal together and enjoy dinner in a pleasant atmosphere.

Arrival:

Sardinia is best reached by plane or ferry. Cagliari Airport in the south and Olbia Airport in the north are both about 2.5 hours from Baunei. Instead of flying, you can also take the ferry to Sardinia. The Mediterranean island is easily accessible from the Italian mainland. The main departure ports are in Genoa, Civitavecchia, Livorno, and Naples.
